This week Dave and I went to St. Luke's Roosevelt hospital for our 20 week ultrasound. Everyone at the hospital was really nice and super helpful. After an efficient check in we waited from about 20 min. and the ultrasound tech called us back to a room. She rubbed the blue jelly on my belly, which was not cold contrary to popular belief, and began to look for the baby. Dave sat next to me squeezing the life out of my hand and we watched the monitor together to see our little one. She told us the heartbeat was strong at 152 bmp. Then proceeded for the next 40 minutes to check, measure, and take pictures of: the heart including the ventricles, the feet, the hands, the bones in the arms and legs, the bladder, the abdominal wall, the kidneys including the blood flow, the head, the brain, the blood flowing into the umbilical cord, and I'm sure other things that I'm forgetting.
The tech had asked before starting the ultrasound if we wanted to know the gender of the baby, to which we said yes. All of a sudden in the middle of her measurements, without any warning, she says, "It's a girl." I said, "Noooo." As I sat there in awe staring at the screen and seeing the lack of boy parts, I look over at Dave and we are stunned! As it begins to set in and look at the Daddy to be and say, "We're having a girl." We are both still adjusting to the news of our little lady :)
As the tech continued she was struggling to get a picture and measurement of the front of the baby's face. She was positioned way down in my pelvis with her face toward my spine and was not moving. So she asked me to get up, walk around for a bit, and drink some orange juice in hopes that we could get her to move. Well 40 minutes later and she was still not moving! The doctor came in to look at all the pictures of our little girl and said everything looked great, but he wanted us to come back in to get the measurement of her face. So we will be going back in 4 weeks to see our little lady again, hopefully she'll be more cooperative. We asked the tech before leaving, "So is everything ok?" At hearing this, the doctor popped his head back around the curtain and said, "Everything looks perfect. We just want to get that shot." All in all an excited visit!
Thank you to all our friends and family for your prayers and your support. This little girl can already feel all the love from each and every one of you! And so can we...
