On Friday morning Dave and I headed up to Rochester to visit with the family and have our first baby shower. We had a wonderful time seeing everyone, watching basketball, and playing wii. The shower on Saturday was just lovely and I was so touched by the kindness and generosity of all those how came to celebrate the impending arrival of our baby girl. Thank you to my Mother and Father in law for hosting the shower!!! We are so thankful for all your love and support.
This week baby girl is settling into the proper position for birth, with her head facing downward. She's busy adding new skills such as blinking to an already impressive repertoire of tricks like coughing, sucking, hiccupping, and taking practice breaths. Our baby's sleep now includes the REM (rapid eye movement) phase and that means she could be dreaming already (what do you suppose she's dreaming about?). Though her lungs are nearly fully mature, she still has plenty of growing to do.
Before heading off to my first baby shower. I don't look as big in this picture as I feel!!!
Pregnancy: 28 weeks
Size of Baby: about 2.5 pounds and about 16 inches long
Gender: Girl
Sleep: It's getting challenging. I regularly wake up about 3 times a night, which is really frustrating. I know I should stop the fluids by 9pm, but I don't want to get dehydrated. So it's just something I have to deal with.
Cravings: Nothing new, still loving my orange juice.
Feeling: Good
Health: I just feel large. I know I have a ways to go and people have told me, "You're not as big as I thought you would be." But to me, I'm huge. No real health concerns. I'm tired a lot and my feet get sore after standing for a while. Lately my belly aches when I've been in the same position too long or from little feet in my ribs, but I can't complain.
Movement: She is getting so strong! I don't think I'll ever get used to feeling and seeing her move in my belly. I've heard you're supposed to do kick counts to make sure the baby is moving at least 10 times every two hours. This morning I counted over 10 kicks in 15 min.... I don't think I will be religious with kick counts since she is such an active little girl. This afternoon I counted over 10 kicks in 2 minutes! Every morning and night when in bed, Dave and I take special time to feel and talk to our little girl. I look forward to it all day long.
Belly: I forget what it was like not to have a big belly with a living being inside there moving around constantly. My belly button is pretty much flush now. No stretch marks.
Best Moment this Week: Visiting our family and friends in Rochester and having our first baby shower!
What I Miss: Sleeping through the night
Next Appointment: This Friday, April 2nd at the Ob (Cancelled)
xoxo
Jill
